Zippo Lighters: From War Zones to Home Grills, etc.

Zippo lighters have gone tame after years in the hellish war zones in Normandy, Philippines, and Vietnam. These provided thousands of young soldiers a measure of comfort during their darkest hours and lighted up moments of calm and victory. During these infamous years of the 1940s, the manufacturer produced black crackle lighters; instead of brass, the lighters were made of steel and sealed with black protective coating against rusting.

Hundreds of thousands of Zippo lighters were conscripted to the army to find their way to rucksacks and pockets and battle-weary lighters have crude engravings of names of which one is the now famous Walter Nader lighter.

The Vietnam soldiers, belonging to the rock and roll generation, had snatches of songs, philosophy, and sarcasm cut onto their chrome lighters, spawning the 2004 Zippo Songs: Airs of War and Lunacy by Phil Kline, a New York based composer. After Vietnam, the lighters are finding their way again to troubled spots, notably in Afghanistan and Iraq and in other parts of the globe.

But it is not all war for Zippo lighters. You will find the multi-purpose Zippos in homes, lighting up grills and fancy birthday candles and bonfires in the beaches and the wilderness. Surely, this Zippo version deserves some attention, as more wives, moms, dads, and teens are using them quietly. If you have not heard about this Zippo version, then read on.

Zippo at Home
Moms love this Zippo, and you would, too. It is a convenient tool to light up the grill manually when the automatic igniter does not work. Hold the lighter up to the burner and simply flick on the flame.

Lighting up a birthday cake is also easier. You will not end up with singed fingers from the traditional lighter, or suffer the embarrassment of frequently striking a match to light up the birthday candles. In emergencies, when no lighter is around or no matches are available these multi-purpose lighters can come in handy. So it is smart to have one or two around, just in case.

Zippo at the Bonfire and the Camp
Bonfires add a touch of romance to evenings at the beach but starting the bonfire can be a problem if you are not a Scout Ranger. With one of the eye-catching multi-purpose Zippo lighters, you can easily start the fire, with enough energy for some romancing later. After all that searching for dry wood, used paper for kindling, broken chairs, and whatnots, you deserve space to relax and unwind.

Hiking is an adventure activity young people are busy at during summers. After hiking all day, a warm campfire is the best companion in the dark, when relaxing under the stars. Campers are advised though to be careful when starting a campfire. The bonfire should be in situated far from trees and other combustible material. When starting the fire, it is safer to use longer lighters and the Zippo multi-purpose lighter does the trick.

Well, it can be said that Zippo lighters have jumped from the war to the grill. Is it not nice that it did?
